Argentine Tango

Argentine Tango has come a long way from its shady origins in the brothels of Buenos Aires. Shorn of some of its aggressive elements, and perhaps some of its most explicit moves, Tango has become a dance of tender initimacy.

This is an intensly personal, introspective dance. Whereas most of our social dances have an element of outward presentation to them, in Tango the dancers' attention is turned (more than in any other dance) inwards on themselves, and on the relationship between them.

Traditionally one always dances to three consecutive pieces of music with the same partner at a Tango dance. The idea being that it takes time to become acquainted with a new partner's dancing and to make the dance worthwhile you must take the time to get used to them, to learn how to dance together with them.
